Meet Barry Hyde
A Proven Leader Who Builds for the Future
Barry Hyde has spent a lifetime getting things done. From the job site to the statehouse to Pulaski County’s top elected office, Barry has built his career and his life around service, hard work, and delivering results for others.
Raised in a working class neighborhood outside Cleveland, Ohio, Barry learned the values of faith, grit, and perseverance from his parents. His father, Gordon, worked as a factory mechanic, and his mother, Lou Esther, was a beautician and entrepreneur who came from a large Cajun family in Louisiana. They taught Barry and his four siblings the importance of putting in a full day’s work, being honest with others, and finding strength in faith and family.
That mindset shaped Barry’s life from an early age. He got his first job at the age of twelve and joined the United States Air Force after high school graduation. He served during the Vietnam era as a member of the Titan missile launch crew stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, gaining the discipline and leadership that would guide him in every chapter that followed.
After his military service, Barry went to work as a carpenter and later launched his own framing business. In time, he founded Hydco, a commercial construction firm he started out of his living room with a borrowed desk and a bold vision. Over three decades, he built it into one of the region’s most respected construction companies.
Barry brought that same results-driven approach to public service. First elected in 2006, Barry served six years in the Arkansas House of Representatives, where he chaired five committees and was recognized as a Distinguished Legislator by the Arkansas Municipal League. In 2014, voters elected him Pulaski County Judge. Since then, Barry has modernized county operations, invested in infrastructure, and worked every day to improve the quality of life for Pulaski County families.
Under Barry’s leadership, the county has earned national recognition for road improvements and pavement preservation, including the prestigious James B. Sorenson Award. He has expanded emergency response services, protected rural water systems, and introduced new technologies to make county government more efficient, responsive, and transparent.
A longtime community leader, Barry has served on numerous civic boards and professional organizations, including the Board of Directors for the Central Arkansas Boys and Girls Clubs, Rotary Club 99, and Metroplan, where he currently serves as President. He is a past chairman of the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and the American Heart Association of Central Arkansas. He is also active in several chambers of commerce across Pulaski County and has supported the military community as a past Honorary Commander at Little Rock Air Force Base.
Barry’s contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Award, the Bud Bowker Award from the Central Arkansas Boys and Girls Club, and the Community Leader Award from Butterfly Ministries.
But Barry’s proudest role is being a husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife Jeanne have been married for more than 29 years and raised three children, Jeremy, Jaime, and Carrie, in North Little Rock. Today, their ten grandchildren are the center of their lives and the inspiration behind Barry’s work to build a better future for all families.
Whether he is biking the trails of Pulaski County or answering a neighbor’s call about a road in need of repair, Barry Hyde is focused on building a stronger community for all our families.
